Create QR codes that remain easy to scan
A QR code can look attractive and still fail in real use. Strong contrast, enough empty space and testing on more than one device are more important than decorative choices.
Keep strong contrast
Dark QR modules on a light background are the safest combination. Avoid colours that are too similar and do not place the code over a busy image. Transparent backgrounds should only be used when the final surface provides clear contrast.
Test the exact content
Scan the downloaded code before printing or publishing it. Confirm the full URL, phone number, email address or WiFi details. Static QR codes contain the entered information directly, so a typing mistake requires generating a new code.
Prepare for print
Use a larger output size for posters, packaging and signs. Keep an uncluttered border around the code and avoid stretching it out of proportion. Test from the same approximate distance that real users will scan from.
Privacy tip: do not place passwords or sensitive personal information in a public QR code. Anyone who can scan the code can read the data stored inside it.
